Once the allotment had been dug over, the next stage was to plan on how to divide it up. After much planning on squared paper, I decided to divide it up in to 3′ and 4′ beds running approximately east-west. This gave me 5 beds of about 20′ long. (I had already planted 5 rows of potatoes as they needed to be put in)

Between the rows I used ground cover material that lets water through well but is also a good hard wearing membrane so that it can be walked on. These paths should be useful so that I can get in to the rows from both sides.
