This is one of the first daffodil shows in the North West. It is always rather nerve-racking wondering if we will have any exhibitors, especially with the beginning we have had to the season.
Thankfully, in the end we had 110 exhibits and 229 blooms on show. Preston Gardening Club supported the show and it was lovely to see the exhibits of ‘Avalanche’ filling the benches. Many people came out to support the show and Tom and I were pleased to be able to donate £300 to Cancer Research.
I was thrilled to be awarded both best bloom with ‘Banker’ and best exhibit with three ‘Trena’. The cyclamiineus cultivars are good to grow and can usually be relied upon to be in bloom for Catforth Show. ‘Trena’ and ‘Rapture’ are the bankers, but there were also some good exhibits of ‘Jetfire’. I plan to try ‘Tracey’ next year, as it is a sister seeding to ‘Trena’ but all white, rather than white-yellow.
See Frank’s report for other information and pictures.
Next Year’s show is planned for 19th March.
