Over this last week or so the gladioli have begun to throw up lots of spikes: mainly of one cultivar ‘Careless’.
Each spike gets a cane and is tied to it using jute string. This needs to be tight enough to hold it up but not over-tight restricting the growth. The cane should also go to the back of the flower spike, but it isn’t always evident which is front and which is back! Thankfully they can be moved later on.
