This year is the first time I've tried to grow a few dahlias for show and I have had a variety of results. Some cultivars are doing really well. Of particular note are 'Mary's Jomanda', Weston Pirate' and 'Blyton Golden Girl' which seem to be doing nicely. Others aren't far behind. I've put up some nets, which a friend of mine doesn't use anymore, for the plants to grow up through which negates having to use lots of canes.

A few of the plants didn't get of to the best start as they were affected by some strong winds. They are beginning to catch up but won't be ready for the flower show at Southport unfortunately.

I'm grateful for two 'pros' who are willing to offer much needed help and advice! They make it look easy.
