It is always interesting to me which gladioli flowers first. The general rule is that Dutch cultivars flower first and the USA/Canadian cultivars take longer to produce their spikes.

This year the first Dutch gladioli to flower for me was the 400 ‘Careless’. It took 77 days from planting. Not far behind, however, was a American 400 ‘Marj S’ which is only a couple of days behind.

There seem to be a number now spiking up and the gladioli bed begins to look like I am growing bamboo canes!
